As the NSW economy continues to grow and evolve, the Government will need to maintain a stable and reliable revenue base to fund essential services and infrastructure. The NSW Government has therefore commissioned an independent review of the State’s revenue system as it relates to federal funding and its interactions with the state tax system. The Government wants the people of New South Wales to join in the conversation on how the revenue system can work better for all, including better integration between state and federal taxes.
On 12 August, the NSW Treasurer announced the eminent Panel to lead this independent Review, bringing together deep and complementary expertise across inter-governmental relations, public policy, federalism, economics and constitutional law. The Review Panel has been tasked to deliver a roadmap to more sustainable funding arrangements and greater financial autonomy for the State.
The Review Panel will be publishing a Discussion Paper ahead of broad consultations in 2019. A Final Report with recommendations will be delivered in the first half of 2020.
