Superintendent of Public Sales under the East India Company, and purveyor to Longwood, the residence of Napoleon Bonaparte during his exile on St Helena. Governor Thomas Brisbane informed of Balcombe’s appointment as the first Colonial Treasurer on 28 October 1823.
