The NSW Fast-track Accounting Program is Treasury’s premier professional development and qualification program for high performing graduates with a passion for accounting.

Treasury offers accounting graduates a three year advanced qualification program with four work placements throughout the NSW public sector and NSW Treasury. Graduates will have access to senior finance professionals and extensive support to complete professional accounting qualifications with CA or CPA.

Our graduates work at the centre of public sector governance and administration, contribute to managing the State’s finances and monitoring the performance of its commercial agencies and extensive asset portfolio. Projects can range from major commercial transactions to planning the future of public infrastructure and delivering the State Budget.

Building capability

The NSW Government Fast-track Accounting Graduate Program seeks to build finance capability and skills across the NSW public sector.  Participating NSW Government agencies have identified capability gaps, particularly for more talented individuals, who have achieved excellence in their studies and demonstrate potential to be future finance leaders in the sector.

The program’s distinguishing feature of inter-agency rotations provides opportunity for graduates to work on common issues across NSW Government and foster cross-sector career paths while building leadership capacity.

The NSW Fast-Track Accounting Graduate Program is an 18 month to three year program commencing February 2019. We are looking for graduates that demonstrate a strong commitment to completing this three year program and want to make a difference to the people of NSW.

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree qualification in accounting, finance or other relevant qualification that will enable entry into the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand or Certified Public Accountant of Australia. This degree must have been completed within the past five years.

  • Applicants must be Australian/New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

To be eligible you must have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency at the time you apply.

  • It is the requirement of this program that applicants are eligible for direct enrolment in a professional accounting qualification at the commencement of the program.

  • Applicants with accounting, commerce or finance qualifications will be considered.

  • Graduates who have obtained a double degree, honours or post graduate qualification are encouraged to apply, however this is not an essential requirement.

  • Applicants should have a credit average or higher in order to be competitive in the selection process.

To be eligible for the Fast-track Accounting program you should have completed your studies within the last five years (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012).

Placements are determined by candidate preferences, skills and experience whilst matching these with the operational resourcing requirements of agencies across the NSW public sector. Within the program rotations, graduates will be offered the choice of a six month placement at NSW Treasury.

Salary range is commensurate with Crown Employees (Administrative and Clerical Officers) Award -Grade 5/6 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and leave loading.
